MARY JANE AUSTIN

Mary Jane Austin is enjoying a rich musical life in Vermont and abroad, where her interests range from recital work and full scale opera productions to conducting choruses and teaching.  She discovered her love for opera while studying with Claudia Pinza and Warren Jones at Duquesne University, and began working at EPCASO shortly thereafter.  In addition to being their principal keyboardist, she was recently named "Honorary Conductor" by the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.  She is currently the rehearsal pianist for Opera Company of Middlebury, and enjoys collaborating with the Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble, Eleva Chamber Players, TURNmusic, Counterpoint, and Vermont Virtuosi.  She co-founded the Vermont Italian Opera Intensive with bass Erik Kroncke, now in its third season, and together they direct opera and operettas at the Unadilla Theatre in Calais every summer.  Currently teaching keyboard harmony, piano, and vocal coaching at Northern Vermont University, she is also the conductor of the Mad River Chorale, organist at the Waterbury Congregational Church, and directs the Monteverdi Young Singers Chorus.  She was recently the rehearsal pianist for Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra’s production of La Traviata, accompanied OCM’s touring production of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, and this June she will play rehearsals for their production of Massenet’s Cendrillon.
